Your smart mind needs a whopping helping of fun
When was the last time you laughed so hard you snorted? So hard your sides hurt? Can’t remember?
Even as a kid, I was slanted more toward seriousness than silliness. TBH, I’ve always thought of playfulness and fun as wasting time. I could be working or doing chores or a hundred other things.
Playing – fun – was something kids do.
Except . . .
All that seriousness and intellect needs an outlet. A way to reset and create some white space.
Enter adult tools like meditation and gratitude. They are excellent practices but they are still in the safety zone of intellect.
Next comes joy. You’ve heard me say joy is the secret sauce of weight loss primarily because joy starts to connect your uber smart mind to your beautiful body. But it’s only part of the solution.
You can be joyful without being fun and vice versa.
Embracing both makes each more powerful.
So, I’m challenging you to consider fun as a non-negotiable for you to feel confident in the body you see in the mirror; to lose weight; to get to all the other wonderfulness on the other side of weight loss.
Fun might feel a little awkward in the beginning but I’ll bet there are opportunities all around you. Look for the places you’ve been saying “no”. For example, my friend has been poking me for a couple of weeks about spending a day at the beach with her.
In the interest of taking my own advice to have fun, we have a beach day planned. It will be silly and fun. I’ll want to cancel and work instead but I won’t because well – fun!
It’s not frivolous or wasteful or busy work or buffering. It’s medicine for your mind.
Connecting with your own body and with another person results in a higher level of productivity when you do come home and sit at your desk. By adding fun to joy, you also begin a partnership between your body and your smart mind. Together, you are unstoppable!
