Hello, Beautiful! What is frustrating the “f*#%” out of you right now? Is it the gym membership that just hit your checking account again even though you haven’t walked into the place in FOUR months? Or the way you always seem to run out of time before you cross everything off your list for the day? What’s frustrating or painful? What do you wish you could change or make different and why?
What is frustrating the “f*#%” out of you right now?
Have you noticed that while the cause of frustration changes, it is almost always present. It reminds me of a conversation with my son a few years ago.
He was working thru some financial issues. He’d made a list and when he got to the end of the list he expected the pressure to fade away. If you’re laughing right now, you already know the epiphany he experienced.
He said, “I’m figuring out the list is never gonna end. No matter what I accomplish, something new always adds itself.”
Frustration works the same way. You expect it to be something that disappears. Nope! In fact, the more you resist it the more space it takes up.
That does not mean you are doomed to always feel frustrated. At least not the way you experience it now. Oddly enough, learning to fully feel it when it shows up is key to lessening how often it shows up.
Expectations drive frustration. You expect life to play out a certain way. When it doesn’t: bingo! FRUSTRATION.
The next time it takes up residence in your mind and body, try getting still. Whether you acknowledge the circumstances falling short of your expectations or not, they are your reality.
Humans attach to expectations because of the feeling they want to experience. For example, I want the scale to show a weight loss so that I can feel successful.
Stillness lets you tap into the feeling (from things working out the way you want them to) that keeps eluding you. Back to the weight example, you want to feel success AND you’re putting in a ton of sincere effort only to feel frustration.
