Hello, Beauties! What are you willing to eat AFTER you weigh in? If you read that title and know exactly what I’m referring to, today’s blog is an invitation to let go of this failure laced remnant of your weight loss past.
What are you willing to eat AFTER you weigh in?
An old diet habit showed up this week. I am sharing it here today because your previous weight loss failures are the number 1 thing blocking you from losing weight permanently and without deprivation.
Losing weight without deprivation is an alluring concept but I’ll bet your brain is offering you all the reasons that it’s a pipe dream. Based on your weight loss history, you equate no deprivation with gaining weight.
What if it’s possible to willingly release your weight loss failure stories?
Here’s one example of what that might look like:
On Thursday mornings I attend a local Weight Watchers meeting in support of my friend Sally. As I got in the car this week to go weigh in, I heard an old internal conversation from almost 20 years ago when I did WW the first time with my mom and sister.
Back then the meeting was at the end of the day instead of the morning and was 30 miles away. We would avoid food all day to have the best possible number on the scale and plan what we would eat AFTER the weigh-in for the entire 30-minute drive.
And then binge eat on the 30-minute drive home.
The payoff was that magic number being recorded – assuming it was a loss.
If you gained instead, the binge just amped up in retaliation to our bodies “betraying” all our efforts.
Those old weight failure stories put you right back in the emotion that happened all those years ago. I was knee-deep in thoughts about what food I would reward myself with on the way home.
You cannot keep old stories from showing up but you can choose not to go down the same rutted path assaulting yourself with food. As a rule of thumb, if it feels familiar, it needs to go.
It’s important to note, that I didn’t actually eat anything. My mind just ranted about all the things I could eat; because you know, it’s 7 more days until the next weigh in.
In the old stories, I took action on those thoughts. But the reality is my body was never fooled no matter how much I manipulated the 24 hours before a weigh in and the hours after.
Then your old story doubles down on the scale results the next week.
If you binged and didn’t gain, it feels like you won and makes you more boldly continue the manipulation.
If you binged and gained, you jump feet first into deprivation and clamping down on yourself.
Both paths lead to gaining even more weight and thinking your body is your enemy.
You may think that every choice you have for weight loss leads you back in this same frustrating dysfunctional circle. That’s for sure what I thought before I discovered the tools I teach my private clients.
