Hello, Beauties! This is you on a holiday. It’s an interesting week with a holiday right smack dab in the middle. Is your brain telling you all the reasons it’s ok to eat whatever you want today and tomorrow? After all, Wednesday is a HOLIDAY, duh. You overate over the weekend and you “know” you’re gonna overeat on the holiday. Feels heavy (pun intended) already.
This is you on a holiday
You experience this a couple times a year. The same trash talk in your head. Thoughts driven by shame for eating that has already happened and deprivation for feeling “left out” on the holiday. Left unchallenged, they will absolutely lead you to eat even more.
THE GOOD NEWS IS:
You are not at the mercy of these thoughts!
Let me show you how this holiday can be different simply by making some imperfect decisions ahead of time.
Decision #1 – You are nobody’s victim. When you believe you have no control, you are more likely to use food to compensate. Whether you eat everything or eat nothing, do it because you choose, not in response to someone else’s agenda.
Decision #2 – Focus on connection. Sure food will be everywhere but so will opportunities for connection. Often, you eat out of boredom or awkwardness. If you find yourself hanging out close to the food table or continually grazing, find someone to share a conversation, pet a dog or go for a walk and connect with yourself.
Decision #3 – Be in the present moment. Instead of creating drama around food, plug into what’s happening right in front of you. Listen to a toddler giggle. Watch the faces of the kids when the fireworks start. Make eye contact with your favorite relative. Ask questions about the story the person next to you is telling. Stay out of the past AND the future. Both lead to eating.
Decision #4 – Give yourself grace. You will get an opportunity to practice being a new version of you on the holiday. Once you get home and your brain starts taking your inventory, telling you how much you messed up; offer yourself grace. Grace allows you to plug right back into yourself instead of getting caught in that same web of procrastination.
