Hello, Beauties! Is the calendar messing with your weight loss? I’m confessing that this might be my favorite time of the year. The weeks after Labor Day, when the tourist season ends and the locals formally regain control over our amazing beach. But I also realize that the days before AND after a holiday mess with the way I eat and the things I think about food.
Is the calendar messing with your weight loss?
I’m betting it happens to you also. Think back to the Wednesday before a 3 day Labor Day holiday weekend.
What did you tell yourself about eating that cookie or that extra helping of pasta?
Your self talk might have sounded like:
- Controlling myself today won’t matter because I’m gonna eat outside the lines over the holidays
- I’ll restart after the holiday. I don’t want to be that girl on a diet.
- It’s just to stressful to pay attention to food right now.
This happens multiple times a year.
It’s a major reason for procrastination.
AND it seems logical!
Again go back to the week before Labor Day.
What if you ate great (fuel food instead of fast food) Monday – Friday and then gave yourself permission to eat whatever you wanted on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Are the FIVE days of good eating valuable?
The true answer is YES . . .
I’ll bet your brain tells you they don’t matter because of what you know you are going to eat Saturday – Monday.
This logic is tied to perfectionism.
Effort only matters if it is constant and rigid.
But that’s not how humans learn or grow.
Perfectionism is deadly to weight loss. It only provides one path to success.
As soon as you believe you can’t maintain the path, you give up.
When you use your past history to predict how you’ll act today, that perfectionism sticks to you like glue. It traps you in a great big ugly circle. You might be trapped there right now.
I invite you to consider that every single meal you feed your beautiful body matters.
Eating outside the lines happens. It is NOT a character flaw. It is a sign of unfelt emotion. I’ll share more about that in Wednesday’s blog.
The skill I teach my private clients is separating negative emotion from food.
That’s an important differentiation. Negative emotions.
Positive emotions are often connected to food but they seldom make you binge.
Negative emotions, on the other hand, keep you grazing, binging, and hating yourself for being “weak”.
There’s plenty of time for you to learn this skill before the holiday season when this whole entire merry-go-round kicks in again. Imagine being able to avoid that big frustrating circle this year and the extra 10 lbs it always puts on your body.
It’s time to let go of punishing yourself. There is nothing wrong with you no matter what number how many times youo “fall of the wagon” and eat outside the lines.
There are just gaps in your information about how YOUR human body works.
If you’re ready to let go of all you know about dieting and embrace the POSSIBILITY that you can lose weight without deprivation and never gain it back, let’s talk.
