Hello, Beauties! I really don’t want to misunderstand and overreact. Your thoughts create your emotions. From time to time, the interpreter in your head uses your thoughts to create drama. Learn to break the mental connections that don’t serve you so you can leave the drama in the dust and save your precious energy.
I really don’t want to misunderstand and overreact
Most people think they know what things mean. For example fill in the blank:
Wearing a size 22 means . . .
Eating butter means . . .
Having your picture taken means . . .
Not being invited to the party means . . .
The scale going up 5 lbs means . . .
Notice how attached you are to the meaning your mind attaches to each of those “ideas”.
Now, consider that twelve other people reading this have DIFFERENT meanings they are just as attached to.
Your thoughts appear to be fact but they are based on your history, your experiences, and your choices. It makes me think of little girls who easily pose for the camera or step on the scale.
Do you remember the first time you hid from the camera?
Do you remember why? What were you feeling?
If you are actively attempting to lose weight, this is an important light bulb moment because you use your beliefs as the foundation for decision making. What if you are misunderstanding the available information and creating unnecessary drama that leads to eating crap?
Let’s take the scale going up 5 lbs as an example.
What do you make it mean?
Interpretation: I’m a failure.
How do you react?
Interpretation: Eat crap because “it doesn’t matter anyway”
By talking harshly to yourself?
Interpretation: I’m never gonna get this right.
By clamping down on yourself foodwise?
Interpretation: I can’t trust myself.
Can you feel how quickly that happens? Almost automatically.
Where has it led you? In this great big circle of losing, gaining, losing, gaining. So frustrating!
THE GOOD NEWS is:
the interpreter in your head works for you. It can be retrained to make different connections. I remember the first time I realized I was not stuck with the meanings I had assigned to things. It felt like freedom.
So how do you change what you think?
The first step is seeing other possibilities. Ask yourself:
What else could this mean?
If I asked 5 other people, what would they say it means?
Realizing your thoughts are not facts is a game changer. Your life just got exponentially better with just that awareness. You get to choose what you think, what you make things mean. If you’re like me, choosing a less dramatic meaning feels like freedom.
Learning the skill of CHOOSING your thoughts is one of the major building blocks of losing weight without deprivation and NEVER gaining it back. Not there yet? That’s ok, the intellectual idea just hasn’t moved down into your heart and even deeper down into your bones yet.
The path to get there is committing to making decisions that leave you head over heels in love with your beautiful body so that it no longer needs the weight you are carrying.
I’m here to show you how to get there. That’s what coaching is all about.
