Hello, Beauties! Does putting on your bathing suit make you break out in a rash? Post Memorial Day weekend so it’s officially time to think about digging your swimsuit out of that bottom drawer and see if it “still fits”. No single item of clothing causes you to judge yourself more harshly and has the power to send you into full hiding from your amazing life.
Does putting on your bathing suit make you break out in a rash?
Grab a pen and paper and write the first 10 things that flood your mind when you just THINK about locating your existing swimsuit.
Does it fit? Do you like it or was it just the one you settled for last year or the year before?
Oh crap! What if it doesn’t fit? That means a shopping trip and reliving every “bad” thing you’ve eaten since the last time you had to endure this torture.
One of my coaching colleagues did the bravest thing recently. She posted a picture of herself on social media in her NEW bathing suit. Full body, top of her head to the bottom of her feet.
That is the definition of vulnerability! Allowing yourself to be fully seen with no control over how other people react. She inspired me to buy a new bathing suit for myself this year and more importantly to
CHOOSE to release all the drama that is usually along for the ride.
I can hear you saying “Easier said than done.”
The reason that seems so true is that bathing suit drama has been with us from the time we put one on at 12 all the way to today – in my case, that’s 40 years of bathing suit drama.
The dichotomy of swimsuit drama:
Age 12: I wish I had boobs. I look like a boy!
14: My mom wants me to wear a one piece. I want a bikini!
16: I can’t wear a bikini. Duh, cellulite!
20: I’ve let myself go. I don’t want to be seen in a swimsuit.
25: No more bikinis. Maybe one with a skirt?
And so on and so on. Somehow swimsuits magnify all the “flaws” you see in the mirror.
What if you could employ all your courage, confidence and self-esteem to let go of all that shame?
I gathered mine as I said no to the suit with a skirt and no to the all black one. No hiding.
Taking a deep breath, I picked one in the size I am TODAY with hot pink stripes and a sexy front zipper. Remember, I live in the land of bathing suits where bikinis are on display every day. My next opportunity to be courageous will come midweek when it arrives and I wear it proudly to the beach.
Ready to break out of your old swimsuit routine and shine this year?
Thoughts of judgment and shame WILL bubble to the surface.
Expect them. It’s your brain’s attempt at protecting you from pain.
Here’s where you have an opportunity to change.
Historically, you feed those thoughts.
Instead, I want to invite you to learn to feel them and then release them.
Feeling emotions instead of feeding them is not a skill anyone has taught you. It helps to apprentice with a teacher that can mentor you thru practicing.
Ready to invest skipping the drama and the rash this year? Amazing! Bonus:
You might just lose all that weight along the way!
