Hello, Beauties! “Change your vernacular.” Three words of sage advice I got from a friend during a random conversation. Words are powerful things. Your vernacular is a specialized group of words specific to your habits. They trigger habitual thoughts that keep you going in frustrating circles. So, let’s talk about the nuts and bolts of deciding to
Change your Vernacular
Your vernacular is a specific set of words or phrases – often including slang – that connects you to others sharing a similar life experience. It identifies you as an insider. It also keeps you stuck.
You speak 4 words, in particular, EVERY DAY, EVERY HOUR that results in self-sabotage.
Find them here:
Most adults have more than one vernacular.
The top three are:
Religion – words that identify you as Christian, non-denominational, atheist, agnostic
Love – words reserved for that one special person including pet names and pillow talk
Dieting – words that show up when you start dieting or tell your past diet stories
On some level, you already know how to change your vernacular. That’s GREAT NEWS because your brain loves repetition and patterns. It loves efficiency. Connecting current experiences to past ones is the equivalent of turbo boosting your efforts.
Let’s start with past experience:
If you’ve ever ended a love relationship, you’ve changed your vernacular. After my divorce, I remember going thru my house and chunking out anything vaguely related to my ex-husband. I stopped saying his name, telling stories about my life with him, changed the movies and television I watched, chose different music, etc. Anything familiar caused pain. Healing required letting go of that specific love language.
Your brain knows how to do this. You have proof it works. Dropping the vernacular of a dead relationship is what lets you fall in love again instead of being stuck.
Now apply all that goodness to weight loss:
Close your eyes and tap into the self-talk that happens when you contemplate losing weight. Mine starts with sternness “This time you’re gonna keep your promises.” Next, comes rules. “No chips, soda or alcohol.” And finally, dread and doubt. “I always lose focus.”
What if you identified all your “diet lingo” and decided to let it go? Your habitual diet schtick causes pain. Permanent sustainable weight loss can never happen as long as its around. Remember, your brain already knows how to let go. Invite it to do what it loves to do.
Awareness is always your starting place. How invasive is your diet vernacular in your daily conversations? How often do you talk about losing weight?
Do you use words like want and cant and hope in reference to losing weight?
Do you procrastinate and elongate the space between attempts to lose weight?
There are 4 words you use every day that are keeping you fat. You use them hundreds of times a day. Your brain hears them, takes them literally and sets about sabotaging you.

Your reward for changing the way you speak to yourself about weight loss? Actual, real, permanent, sustainable weight loss!
There’s a reason you haven’t lost the weight yet. A major piece is your vernacular.
You are not weak or failure. You are not broken.
Beautiful woman, you are none of those things.
You just need to wipe Diet Lingo out of your life.
You are so ready for this work. Every time you’ve ever lost, gained, lost again, given up, lost focus, restarted has perfectly positioned you for this leg of the journey. I am so looking forward to meeting you.
Love you my Voluptuous Beauties!
